History of Wessling Architects
Founder Steve Wessling
Stephen J. Wessling started Wessling Architects in the basement of his home over 30 years ago. His career began in the fall of 1965 when he attended his first school for architectural and structural engineering. Stephen received his Bachelor of Architecture from Boston Architectural College in 1975, graduating second in his class and received his Certificate in Architectural and Structural Engineering from Weymouth Vocational Technical High School Post Graduate Program, where he graduated at the top of his class.
Over the past 55 years in the architectural profession, he has been involved with all aspects and types of architectural buildings. Stephen excelled at understanding the technical complexities of building, especially building exterior problem identification, problem solving and preventing problems as an envelope and roofing consultant. Wessling Architects was one of four local firms that founded the New England Chapter of Roof Consultants Institute (RCI) when the RCI agreed to include building facades in addition to roofing.
Stephen has presented on seminar/workshop topics including mold issues, building envelope failures, historic preservation, building use analysis and rentable area calculations (BOMA) and forensic architecture. Other distinctions include service as an expert witness in the courtroom, mediation and peer reviews and consults with other architectural firms on the building exterior details before construction.
Stephen has received individual and project awards from BOMA Boston (Industry Leader of the Year), Preservation Massachusetts, Cambridge Historical Commission, and a Certificate of Preservation Merit from the City of Cambridge Historical Commission.
